Non-scientific reasons as to why celebrity couples don't work out

ionamacrobert

So it’s been a very busy week starting my new job and settling into work. I will do more of a post on that when I’m a few weeks in!! However, the undisputable shock of the week was the split of Molly Mae and Tommy Fury. Working for a magazine and being in the office when that type of news drops, you can hear the typing of the keyboard ready to report, what is set to be, a big news story that is just unravelling.

Obviously, there is still speculation about why they have split after 5 years since meeting on Love Island. Plus, if you watch Molly’s vlogs then despite the undeniable cuteness of Bambi (their daughter) then there’s been a few breadcrumbs about all the times Tommy has been absent. I even saw a clip of when Molly said he had booked a last minute trip to Dubai, whilst the following week was set to be one of her biggest working weeks!

There’s now a rumour that Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan are splitting up, days before her album releases and I can’t help but question why do these celebrity couples not work? They are normal humans at the end of the day, so their breakups are bigger in the public eye's perception; however, being in the spotlight seems to sacrifice romance.

So here are some of my (non scientific and personal) reasons:

  1. The rock n roll lifestyle

A lot of celebs, especially the fresh faces that launch off shows such as Love Island, get           sucked into the world of nightclub appearances, parties and glitzy cocktail parties. It’s going to be more invitations than the average person and knowing this lifestyle is at the tip of one’s fingers could be the reasoning behind a celebrity couple’s downfall. Someone in the couple may spend all their free evenings going all out partying…whereas the other is more introverted.

  1. PR = money = breakup once they bank it

It’s a weird concept to think that couples are set up for publicity but knowing the marketing would make you more money, would you do it? I had my suspicions about Sabrina and Barry, even more so when he appeared in her music video for Please, Please, Please. They do look smitten in videos together however, “I heard that you’re an ACTOR” could ring true. Plus, she’s a great actor as well.

  1. The Pete Davidson effect

There needs to be a scientific study on certain celebrities and why they have dated so many people, way out of their league aka the Pete Davidson effect. Some celebrity couples are just so random that no wonder they break up, it’s almost like they got together because they are both ‘famous.’ If the guy or girl was just an average person, they wouldn’t be getting half the attention.

  1. One person gets more successful than the other

Definitely this is not the sign of a healthy relationship and proves that the other person is clearly valued by being the dominant in a relationship. In this industry, it’s hard to predict who will be more favoured in the public eye and if one has way more opportunities this could lead to the inevitable breakup. I’d say this is probably a popular reason and again, a true test to whether you can actually be happy for your partner or does their limelight shatter your ego.

  1. Puppy dog eyes

I do think some of the greatest relationships were completely at the wrong place, wrong time such as Zanessa and Jelena. If you don’t understand the reference, you weren’t there. Imagine being in the disney factory so young, meeting potentially the love of your life and then the success of a show catapults you even more into the industry. The two paths will not match however, fans will still hope for a reunion one day…

  1. The love isn’t set in reality

Reality shows tend to either make the best couples (one of which has just separated) or prove that people are just fame hungry and aren’t at such a loss in their dating life to resort to TV. Ironically, all the people on these shows are quite attractive making the rest of the population think well what hope is there for anyone else. THERE IS HOPE! These people are just more concerned about instagram layouts and brand deals than marriage.

  1. Once a beep always a beep

It is topical to talk about cheating considering the headlines and it is a common reason why the couples split. Remember Cheryl and Ashley? I think it’s a common reason regardless of whether you are a celebrity or not, it’s just even more baffling when in the public eye as you will get found out probably a lot quicker.

  1. FINALLY, sometimes it just doesn’t work out.

You read this whole article for this lousy reason. However, my point being is that celebrities are normal human beings and life challenges aren’t escaped. A more philosophical perspective is that it’s just ‘not meant to be’ and there isn’t a big reason why. Later on down the road, when you see that celebrity with a new beau and happier than ever, you realise it’s not that deep.
